The car was hot. It wasn't the coolest spring, and summer was fast approaching. As Ben pulled out of the parking lot, Connor turned to Miah.
"I'm hoping the police don't give us too much trouble," he said.
"Yeah." She didn't want to care too much about it, but it was true.
He leaned forward in his seat. "Ben, do you think we should try to hit a station back closer to Miah's hometown to make the story less complicated? We'd have to explain why we ended up in Tennessee instead of Florida."
"True..." Ben always focused hard on driving, and didn't like to carry on deep conversations at the same time. "That's probably a good idea. Pick a city on the map and I'll take you there. It'll take awhile, though, and we'll have to avoid any police along the way."
"Just observe speed limits and pay your tolls, and we should be alright."
"Hey, this is Ben you're talking to, have I ever disobeyed traffic laws?"
"Just don't do it on purpose," Connor smirked.
Ben smiled. "If you say so."
