The guard on patrol gripped his pistol as he got nearer; there was something in the air that made his skin crawl. He knew the two were dangerous; he’d seen what the boy could do. The girl, though, he didn’t think would be much of a problem; she was chained anyway. But still, he’d been warned…and it didn’t hurt to be prepared.
He heard a twig snap to his left and turned, stopping quickly. He could barely make out a man and girl stepping out of the bushes. His eyes widened.
Could it be?
The guard watched as they advanced toward the truck. There was no doubt about it. He shook his head, trying not to wonder how they had even survived, and then quietly followed them.
