Episode 78

Her wrist stung.  Her ear was ringing.  Adrenaline was clouding her head and throwing her further before herself than she could anticipate.  But she was free.  And nothing else mattered now.

“Connor?” she heard Gail shout from somewhere.

They ran over to the clump of pine trees, and Connor motioned for her to join them.  “We have to get out of here before that guard alerts the others, or we won’t be going anywhere.”

As her elation at her freedom wore off, fear gave Miah a new urgency.  “How are we going to get away?”

“Connor, is the car still parked up there?”

“It should be.”  They kept running.

“What car?” Miah asked.

They ran up the hill toward the road, and Miah turned to look back.  She could see searchlights waving over the site and could hear men shouting.  She and the others were in plain sight.

“If they look up here, they’ll see us,” she said nervously.

“We can’t do anything about that. We just have to keep going.”

Miah huffed, running as quickly as she could on so steep a slope.  They’d better have a good explanation for all of this.
