Episode 60

Gail sat in the cold, dark room, curled into a ball.  The only light came from a tall window and let in cold streams of moonlight, slithering across the cement floor as the night wore on.  The hard words echoed in her head, and painful tears sprung into her eyes as she remembered——no, she must not think of that. It had never been like this before.  It had always been bearable; she had only wanted to escape because she believed it to be wrong.

But now, she had fear.  That was different.

At any moment, she might hear footsteps at her door; she shuddered at the thought of what more they might do.  She buried her head in her arms, her heartbeat a faint flutter inside her.

It was all wrong.  So very, very wrong.

They wanted their experiment back, though.  And they wanted her to do it for them.  She had to stop herself from wondering if it would be worth it to just hand him over.  She sat up straight and stared at the wall.

Has it come to this?  Doubting whether I should be faithful to my friends?

I have got to get away from here.

But she was completely helpless, her situation utterly hopeless, her jailers heartless, and her time was running out.
